Reporting to the Settlement Protection & Claims Manager, you will be someone who can adapt to a fast-paced work environment, work confidently within a team and meet deadlines under pressure. Ideally this role would suit either a recent Graduate or someone with up to 5 years post qualification work experience.

Te Arotahi Maatua - Focus of Role

This role will provide technical advice to the Settlement Protection Manager to effectively implement the strategies that protect the integrity of both the existing and future treaty settlements of Waikato-Tainui. The role will also include providing technical and strategic advice relating to treaty settlement processes to the Waikato-Tainui Negotiator for the resolution of the Waikato-Tainui outstanding historical Treaty of Waitangi claims.

As part of the Settlement Protection and Claims Team the role will ensure that the Waikato-Tainui settlement rights are being implemented effectively and not undermined by Crown decision making and policy changes. Extensive engagement with various stakeholders is a critical part of the role, including but not limited to, engagement with Waikato-Tainui marae and hapuu, iwi, Crown agencies and local government.

Ngaa Tohu Maatauranga - Skills & Qualifications

  • Graduate level or up to 5 years post qualification experience
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Political Science, Management Studies, Policy or similar
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written skills
  • A working knowledge of treaty settlement processes
